The Invitation. By Belinda Alexandra - Published Genres: Writer and harpist Emma Ducasse was raised by her grandmother in Paris. Her elder sister Caroline is married to American tycoon Oliver Hopper. Read Review.

The Invitation did have some interesting descriptions and factoids of the many preposterous aspects of the Gilded Age woven throughout, and, this aspect became a greater proportion as the story progressed. One can tell that Belinda Alexander always does a good job of researching her books. I appreciate that. The Invitation is a tale of two sisters, set against the backdrop of Paris and New York. Marking a slight change in direction for Belinda Alexandra, The Invitation, while having the exotic locations and rich historical details her readers enjoy, is more a story of intense relationships between sisters and mother and daughter, than a saga. Heavy themes, but all were woven into the story with a finesse that is very much Belinda Alexandra’s trademark. The Invitation is a story filled with glamour and deceit. There is plenty of drama and suspenseful moments, but I feel there was an anti-climatic feel when it came to consequences for the atrocities committed by Caroline.
